[Background]

The renovation of Gordon Chapel transforms a traditional sanctuary into a high-performance, multipurpose space. While the aesthetic emphasizes light and oak, the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) design provides the essential infrastructure to support this flexible, “uplifting” environment.

[Outcome]

To realize the architectural vision, the engineering focused on discreet technologies that enhances the user experience without disrupting the chapel’s serene atmosphere:

  • Acoustically Attenuated HVAC: To protect the 1974 Rieger organ’s integrity and choral clarity, the mechanical systems were engineered for ultra-quiet, low-velocity air distribution, tucked discreetly behind acoustic oak paneling.

  • Architectural Lighting & Power: The electrical design replaced dated systems with energy-efficient, high-CRI LED arrays. This includes the signature illuminated ceiling coffers and precision-aimed accents that shift the room from ceremonial focus to bright, meeting-ready lighting at the touch of a button.
